"The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love”  —  Galatians 5:6b

Like freshly baked cookies, my Christmas memories melt my heart with a warm, sweet taste, and are filled with delicious aromas that are too soon gone. At Christmas time, I love baking cookies, decorating the tree while listening to Christmas music, exchanging presents, and spending time with my family. As children, my sister and I would get so excited at the sight of presents under the tree, and we could hardly wait to tear open the wrapping on Christmas morning. One year, we secretly opened our presents a week before Christmas. After playing with our new toys, we wrapped them back up under the tree so our parents wouldn’t know. Christmas is not as much about opening our presents as it is about opening our hearts.

Each year at Christmas, my family bakes cookies, and we give them to all of our neighbors. It’s become a very meaningful tradition. Christmas is love in action – when you love, you give. God started the giving tradition when He gave a gift of love wrapped in human flesh that was tied securely with His promises. This season is a beautiful time to reflect on God’s amazing love for us. Toys will break, and cookies will be eaten. Gifts of love are lasting, and are the key ingredients of a truly merry Christmas!
