“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in
my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I
have kept myFather’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this
so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command
is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than
this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”  —  John 15:9-13

Today is the first day we celebrate the arrival of LOVE. Read as a family John 15:9-13 and 1 John 4:7-16. Celebrating that love came down at Christmas is more than just celebrating a 2000 plus year old event, it is also anticipating that He will return one day. Until the time of His return, our task is to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

We are to love like Jesus loved. Not just the way we want to love which could be very selfish.  It is more than just feelings. I can say I love chocolate chip cookies, but it is not going to change the world. As followers of Christ, we want to love others in a way that will change the world, both our world and the world with which we share Christ’s love. In verse 12, Jesus spells it out very clearly, “My Command is this: LOVE EACH OTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU.” These are simple, straight forward words of great meaning. He would later in this same chapter love us so much He died for us.

So please pray and thank God for his outpouring of love on your family and the world and ask him to guide your family this season to love more than they ever have.

Activity:

Make red heart cards with construction paper, write, “God is Love,” tape a candy cane to it, and take it to a laundry mat and leave where people will be sitting or hand them out to people who are there.

Merry Christmas!
