“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.”  —  Isaiah 9:6-7

Our boys had waited with great anticipation for their first trip to Disney World. They counted down the days, made plans for rides and activities, and talked non-stop of the upcoming vacation. On the morning of our departure, we found their bags, packed and sitting downstairs by our garage door. They were ready to begin the journey to fulfill their dreams.

In this passage, we find the ancient Hebrew people had also counted the days, made great plans, and talked of the coming Messiah. The words of Isaiah echoed in their ears as they prepared and waited with great anticipation for nearly 700 years for the fulfillment of this promise.

How will you prepare yourself for the coming of Jesus this Advent season? Our prayer for your family is that you will “teach these things diligently” to your children as you wait with great anticipation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus.

Activity:

Make an advent calendar with your children so you can count down the days with great anticipation as you prepare for Christmas.

Light the first candle in the Advent Wreath.

Prayer:

Dear Jesus, thank You for coming to this earth and loving us. During this busy season, may we wait with great anticipation as we prepare for Your birthday. Amen.

Merry Christmas!
